Job Summary

Position Summary

The Youth Specialist will work with program staff to develop, implement, and evaluate the After-School Program and Summer Enrichment Program for children and youths in grades ranging from 1st through 12th. The Youth Specialist will assist students with homework, engage students in learning activities, and work with CPDC staff to further develop programs that foster a love of learning and reinforce attendance and participation expectations.

Scheduled work hours are Monday through Thursday, 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM (with some flexibility).

Job Responsibilities
  • Tutor and/or assist students in completing homework assignments or other learning activities

  • Collaborate with STEM, reading, and other specialized tutors to ensure students are receiving appropriate support

  • Track daily attendance and assist with documenting and tracking student academic progress per grant requirements

  • Communicate with parents, teachers and school administrators regarding student progress or concerns

  • Manage and maintain the behavior management system as well as modeling and enforcing program rules consistently

  • Plan and implement Summer Enrichment Program with emphasis on sustaining Language Arts and Math skills

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of one (1) year of relevant work experience; or a minimum of three (3) years of documented, successful experience in academic tutoring, community and/or youth development, or community organizing activities

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Competent computer and technology skills
  • Knowledge of positive classroom and behavior management strategies preferred
